VANCOUVER, BC, August 7, 2007 – bioLytical Laboratories (bioLytical) announced today that it has received final licensing approval for the INSTI™ kit in Venezuela and Mexico. INSTI™, a 60-second rapid HIV test for point-of-care testing, is now available in these countries for sale and distribution.

“Latin America has attributed its high HIV transmission rates to common factors including widespread poverty and migration, and a lack of education and awareness,” says Matthew Clayton, Chief Operating Officer, bioLytical. “This approval is an important and necessary first step to provide the countries in this region with access to rapid HIV testing.”

Venezuela has an estimated population of 26,023,528 people. With approximately 110,000 people reported living with HIV as of 2005 (0.7% prevalence) it has one of the largest HIV/AIDS epidemics in the Latin American region. Mexico is the most populous of the Latin American countries with an estimated population of 108,700,891. In 2005 there were approximately 180,000 people living with HIV (0.3% prevalence).

bioLytical is a Canadian company that has developed the INSTI™ HIV-1/HIV-2* Rapid Antibody Test. INSTI™ is a rapid, in-vitro, qualitative test for the detection of antibodies to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Type 1 in human whole blood, serum or plasma. The test is intended for use by trained personnel in medical facilities, clinical laboratories, emergency care situations, and physicians' offices as a screening assay capable of providing test results in less than 60 seconds.

After completion of a lengthy approval process, bioLytical is pleased to open up business channels with Latin America. Mexico and Venezuela will be added to a growing list of countries that have already licensed the INSTI™ kit around the world.
